      Since snoring is closely associated with the serious disorder Sleep Apnea, any treatment for snoring should include a screening to detect Apnea. Nothing could be worse than ignoring the health-threatening loss of oxygen to the brain and heart, while solving the snoring problem.
      Apnea is evaluated in several ways: medical history, Blood Oximetry, and an overnight sleep study (Polysomnography). Blood Oximetry testing is a computerized measurement of blood oxygen level and has been demonstrated to be an effective screening test to evaluate the presence of Apnea, as well as to indicate the number of Sleep Apnea events. This study is simple, inexpensive, and can be used by a patient in his/her own home.
     Sleep Apnea studies are administered by Sleep Physicians or by certified Dentists trained in Sleep Disorders. Should tests indicate Apnea, a more comprehensive Sleep Study should be performed. If an MRD has already been fabricated to treat the snoring, it may be utilized by the Sleep Physician during the study to prove it's efficacy in controlling the Apnea.
